Matthew D Riven was born and raised in the American West, but it was within his family and close circle that faith and storytelling were woven into the rhythms of everyday life. He grew up in a Christian home where the gospel was faithfully taught, and where conversations, convictions, and lived example shaped his understanding of truth from an early age.
Storytelling also took root early. As a boy, he spent hours imagining new worlds, writing scenes, and developing characters alongside friends who shared the same creative drive. Many of his closest friendships were built through that shared love of stories, through conversations about the worlds they loved and the ones they hoped to create.
Though he pursued a college education in English, finding space for creative writing proved difficult. The demands of work, academic reading, research, and writing assignments often crowded out the time and focus needed for imagination. He made attempts along the way and shared that interest with a close circle of college friends who also enjoyed writing and storytelling, but the weight of everyday responsibilities gradually pushed creativity to the margins.
He completed his education at The Ohio State University and went on to work in a variety of roles, first in Ohio and later in Las Vegas, Nevada, eventually becoming a web designer before returning to Ohio. Like many seasons of life, it was a period shaped by growth and responsibility, though writing itself remained largely set aside.

Over time, what had once been a simple love for stories began to deepen. His studies in English sharpened that instinct, drawing him toward literature that wrestles honestly with the human condition, longing, and redemption. That interest did not remain merely literary. It became a growing love for theology, for truth, and for the beauty and authority of God’s Word. As he studied Scripture, his desire to write became joined with a conviction to communicate eternal truth through story.
For a season, writing remained buried under the weight of responsibility, but it was not lost. In recent years, it has returned in the quiet hours of the night, after his wife and children are asleep, when the house is still and distractions fade. In those hours, stories have begun to take shape again.
Matthew met his wife in 2013 and was married the following year. Together they are raising two sons. His family remains his greatest joy and responsibility. For now, he writes under a pen name to maintain a measure of quiet and privacy. This is not out of fear, but from a desire to let the work stand on its own while it is still unfolding. In time, he hopes to publish more openly under his real name.
Until then, the name Matthew D Riven serves as a placeholder, a reminder that a name may be hidden for a time, but truth should never be.
His stories are not allegories or moral fables. They are grounded explorations of faith, doubt, deception, and redemption. They reflect his own journey of coming to see the gospel not merely as a message, but as the power of God unto salvation.
Matthew writes to unite Christian conviction with imaginative storytelling. His aim is not only to engage the imagination, but to stir the heart, awaken the soul, and point the reader to what is eternal.
Above all, he prays that God would use these stories for His glory.
